Hello Internet Friends! ^^

Happy 2023! Or, I hope you're having a happy one, anyway! <3

I said... gosh sometime ago... that I still wanted to make a sort of New Years' journal, and lo and behold, I have finally gotten off my fluffy quail butt in order to make good on that statement! Took awhile, but here we are! Who really believes in the passage of time, anyway?

Definitely not me.

Well, here we are. This website might not be what it used to be, but if you're reading this, I'm happy to tell you that you're still here, and haven't been lost in the woods or kidnapped by aliens or fallen into a puddle and ended up in a new dimension or whatever it is that can happen to mere mortals if they're not careful.

And... I'm glad that you're here. I'm glad that you're still on dA and that you're watching my account for whatever reason that you do. Be it for Kirby, (which is likely most of you, or the liveliest of you), whatever other random nonsense I produce, or just to keep track of me on the internet. Whatever the reason is, I'm very grateful to have you and to know that on some level, my art, my creations, touch people outside myself. That isn't why I create; I'm not here to soak in feedback or to try and get popular or... even to connect with people at all, honestly. This account was born to archive and portfolio my own works, as well as hoard favorites of other peoples. I am an artist because I love to create art, in many forms, and I'll never stop creating for me. But when I do get that feedback, when I do get to interact with you all, and bond a little over shared passions, and discuss mutually-enjoyed things... I really do treasure that.

So if you're reading this, thank you for being a watcher. Thank you for hanging around <3

Last year was... a year. I guess.

Truthfully, I'm not excessively one to get into my personal life on this site; not so much because I don't want to share as... well, it just isn't the place. If I'm here for art, so aren't all of you, and I don't expect any interest in my personal plights, so I feel no need to share them XD

The fact remains though that things off the internet obviously impact my existence on it. The past couple of years it's felt like my artistic put-out, while never a competition or necessity or anything like that... has slowed down.

My reply game has bogged down into an absolutely shameful little mudpit, and if you're on the other end of that nightmare, I do deeply apologize X'D

The fact is, like probably every single person online I know, I'm mentally ill. It wasn't greatly an issue until... maybe late middle school to high school, and even then I didn't recognize what it was, and even when I had, it took me a long time to seek treatment. I've been in therapy for... sheesh years now. It's a blessing and my therapist is a sweetheart, and she won't let me get away with my bullsh!t, which is unendingly helpful, and we might even get me on anxiety meds this year, which could be great! Point is tho, this is... nothing new if you've read any prior journals like this, (or talked to me for more than ten minutes, I'm sure it becomes apparent), and while I'm improving in a lot of ways, I'm regressing in others. The past several years have been... immensely stressful, and I've been handling it well less and less. Which sucks. Sometimes it isn't a problem, other times I can't really seem to do much of anything, and that tends to include... making nice finished artwork X'D

But tl;dr, being a sort of anxious mess just isn't super conducive to creating the artwork that I want to create, and while I am definitely still an anxious mess as of now, I am not in anywhere near the slump I hit from late 2021 to the middle of summer 2022.

(And thank god for that for a few reasons)

So, where does this leave me standing for the new year?

Well. Obviously there's only so far into the future that I can look, and only with so much accuracy, but I am tentatively hopeful that I can manage to, at the least, pump out more of the art that I want to make this year, than I did last year. That's my biggest goal, really.

While 2022 was a dry year for visual art, or much moreso than I waned it to be, it was actually a real blast on the literary art side of things!

Somehow, in the summer, I just went for the writing hard. I got so much done, so so much, and I'm very excited, and honestly very proud! ^^

-I wrote and completed 3 Kirby oneshots, and posted them!

-I developed another new Kirby AU to play with!

-I've written thousands and thousands of words for dozens of in-progress tales!

-2 Of those in particular are very promising; one especially that's just breached over 14k, my longest oneshot story yet, to the point that whenever it's done I may feel comfortable finding places to break it up into a couple chapters! I really want to post it this year!

-As always I have also done loads of worldbuilding, both for my main Kirby project (which is over a decade in the making, wow), as well as my little hoard of aforementioned AUs!

I actually wrote so much last year, and so consistently, (what better way to spend my 15 minutes breaks at work lol), that I got hugely burnt out at one point! XD

All of a sudden, I'd just milked that reserve of writing ability until it had run dry, and as much as I wanted to keep going, there just wasn't anything left to draw from. I'd open a document and try to get out a few sentences and just... utterly fail, haha

I knew I'd pushed it, and so I just took a break and drank in various sources of inspiration and creative juices for a while, (and read as much good fanfic as I could find; mostly Star Wars because... 1. I suddenly I hyperfixated for no reason, and 2. I've... legitimately read just about everything worth reading in the Kirby archive, both FFN and AO3, and I wasn't feeling a reread at the time lol), and eventually, that writing ability slowly flowed back.

When it did... I started magically coughing up that 14k monstrosity I mentioned XD

If that's my vague summary of last year,

What's the plan for now?

-I mentioned in a status somewhat recently that I'd like to post more bits and pieces of my unfinished writing here on dA. Chunks and drabbles that I would pick out if I think they're interesting (or funny) enough, that I could illustrate with a piece of art. A few hundred words, (or less), by themselves aren't much to look at. But use them to enhance a piece of visual art, well... Seems much more fun to me 0w0

-As always, I'm eager to smear my cringe headcanons all across the internet, and this might a point where I could be brave enough to do it ->w<- I've wanted for a while to share, in particular, things about puffs and how I have them work in my projects. From stuff like biological ideas and anatomy, to how I actually design puff characters physically, to even dropping tidbits of the culture I've made for them. There's several reasons I've held off in the past; most notably being... like I said, I've been working and learning and changing these things for over ten years now. I'm finally at a point where it seems like my ideas for what I want to do have settled and thusly, the details are ready to be set properly in stone. Until HAL drops something that rips the floor from under me but I'll deal with that pain when it happens XD I also worried that... well. There wouldn't be any interest. These are things that are of course stashed neatly away in my docs for me to access and use in my work, and they aren't going anywhere. But I thought if there was no good chance of anyone else caring, then there was no good reason to shove them here on dA for others to see. What changed my mind? Seeing you guys do it. Reading your work on various Kirby species and seeing that that interest is really out there. So... this is... a huge part of myself, an immense personal passion project, but I might be able to crack some open this year...

-Another ambitious idea is that I've wanted for a while to create little one-off, single page comic strips kinda just for giggles. I'm not sure why I haven't tried it yet, to be honest with you, but maybe that'll happen this year too?

-Speaking of comics, I do want to get back to work on my overhaul of Starfall, because I can promise you that's not abandoned, I just realized shortly after the first page that I had to get more things together to create the next two pages, and then my art was super gross and outdated anyway, and the remake just hasn't happened yet. But my god, it's a three page comic; I can get that done somehow XD It's also meant to drop some Super Suspicious Lore, so if I do get it out, pay close attention :3

-Similarly to the drabble-sharing idea, I really want to share more of those Kirby AUs that I mentioned before. I've got quite the little collection of them now, and they all take turns vying for attention and invading my headspace, mostly while I'm at work performing my very mindless job tasks XD That being said, I'd love to scribble up some concept art and things for them! Several are, I will openly admit, sorta niche... but a couple I think might be... serviceable to a wider audience, (though if you watch me for more than just strictly Kirby then there's a good chance that you can appreciate many of them; they're all basically Kirby mixed with my other tastes lol. No coffeeshop aus here; we've gone straight into Weird Fantasy Land)

-Related to the above, I had the idea quite recently to create some Demon Beast species to share and let people use to create characters. Why? Well, uhh they're really fun for some reason, and if I opened them up for people to use in their Kirby stories and create FCs out of them... idk, I just think it could be fun! I'd probably think about making adopts of them, too. And even if nobody wanted to make their own, I just... love... creature creation, and I'd absolutely be sharing them here regardless lol

You've no doubt noticed that I'm a bigger gameverse fan, but I do love the anime, and seeing so many of you create for it or for anime/game mixes... has really gotten my brain whirring over the past year or so! I've actually been prodding at one of my anime AUs in the past year or so, and thinking about another; the very first! That's all on you guys and making such amazing stories; I hadn't given either idea the time of day in ages until seeing new Kirby work here on the site inspired me to think up anime stuff again ^^

-And now that I've mentioned character creation/design... Adoptables. To be completely honest, I've been sitting on several lists of prompts/ideas for pre-made adopt batches for probably like 3 years now, and I get ideas all the time. I just love designing, and at the end of the day, I'm really good at coming up with designs that I have no use for, or can't even use because they look great but they'll break my own lore XD

So what do I do? Offer them up for other people!

I might try to do more pre-made ones this year just because sometimes having to design a bunch on demand like with the palettes I do can leave me pretty stressed out and lead to artistic burn out, which isn't great when everyone's waiting for their paid-for character, but... that doesn't stop me from finding the process really enjoyable anyhow, so I might experiment with some already-designed kiddos to share with you! We'll see! ^^

-By god I wanna finish this suddenly promising fanfic, you guys

I really, really hope I can do it this year. Idk when, but know that I love it a lot! It is worked on often and with vigor!

Of course, that all doesn't change the fact that... who knows how much of that I can actually pull off in the next ten months of 2023, but. This is what I want to do. What I hope to try to do. And... who knows! Maybe I can do it! ^^

Regardless of this list and whatever else I'll be posting here...

But the time has finally come! To my honest shock, poll results dictated actual interest, (not because I don't think my watchers are invested in my work so much as... dA's dying a lil bit-), so I figured I might as well actually go for it!

So what is this?

Essentially, a big fat excuse for me to chatter it up with you guys in the comments about Kirby stuff!! My favorite! XD Hopefully yours too, lol!

I'll be honest tho; I have Ulterior Quail Motives.

While this is mostly just for funsies, what a few of you here might not know, (since it's not on dA), is that I have literally 10+ years of Deep Lore and such building for my writing endeavors for this series. Google doc after google doc of... mostly... worldbuilding, science, magic, culture, assorted nonsense, etc. related to uh. One particular Kirby subject lmao XD That being my fanon surrounding puffballs and the chaos I intend to do with them, haha

On that front, if anyone has any like. Highly specific questions they wanna pose that can help me develop things on that front, it's greatly appreciated.

My Super Deep Big Boi 3AM Puffball Discussions are held between a mere handful of other people, and I, 1. feel bad for overloading their sanity with it constantly, and 2. think that for creative stuff especially, the more brains to bounce stuff off of I can find, the better XD

Well kids, I'm another year older.

And it's been... a rough year, wow X'D

But it also saw my skill improve in leaps and bounds, so that's been really fun! XD Whatever real life turmoil spent the better part of the past 9 months making my real life a mess... While it certainly destroyed my activity and derailed my ability to make tons of artistic progress, especially when it felt like I needed to...

A lot of you here on this twisted shell of a once-great website made that a little bit better.

So I guess what I'm saying is... thank you.

Thank you to everyone who was patient with me while days dragged to weeks and then longer and I was barely able to push through owed art, never mind things I wanted to do for myself.

Thank you to everyone who was understanding about why, even though no one here on site knows specifically what had been, and to an extent, is, going on in my life; (I'm not the type to just vent that openly here, though I wouldn't shy away from answering if you asked).

Thank you to all of you that comment on my work, whether it's just a short verbal thumbs up, or a lengthy description of what you like, and why, and how my piece made you feel.

for shitposting-

All righty, real talk; building off that status that was building off that poll (wow), in lieu of posting, well, quality content, (That's a work in progress, don't worry! It's just been hard to decide what to share with you all first, and to find the time to work on it all, though I just finished some preliminary sketches for stuff right now, actually! ^^), I figured it might be funny (or not) to give you some like. Little things?

So until I can get out The Good Stuff to you all, yer gonna hafta settle for...whatever this is XD Most of these are just gonna be snippets of things, I guess; like little out of context bits and pieces that I feel could be interesting to people or what have you. And some are. Some are straight trash without context and that basically leaves them as shitposts. So.

A couple good beans specified that they'd most like to see some of my HCs on Meta Knight, Kirby, and their species in general, so today you guys get some orb stuff!

Vague, out of context orb stuff, that I intend to produce Nice Things for, hopefully within the decade-- And as an added bonus, if you guys are actually interested (I know some of you are but it's so hard for me to get my head around the fact that many people do seem to care, I just can't handle that kind of flattery oh gosh), then I maaay be willing to elaborate a bit on some of the things here without getting too spoilery >8D

Now I've definitely talked too much, so let's get to the meat of this, shall we? (***Note, this stuff is going to be Gameverse, because that is what I specialize in, and although I may do more for the anime in the future, (there's ideas, trust me), it is not my primary focus. I do steal things from it tho, but just a refresher rundown; there was no war, there's no such thing as Star Warriors and all that kerfuffle, Meta doesn't have his sexy little accent, yadda yadda. I will work on all that someday, tho )

Kirby Headcanon Bits:

• Kirb in my 'verse is, in the present day of the timeline, entering adolescence. Not that he's really aware of that yet. Surprise lol

• Unfortunately, (because I'm still working on age conversions), I can't give you a number yet ^^;

• Kirby does not like caterpillars. This stems from a dark time where he tried eating one and there were negative consequences that he can't seem to get over. Apparently it was fairly traumatic X'D

• His favorite color is all of them, he can't choose. Besides, rainbows make people happy!

• His favorite food is also probably all of them, but strawberry shortcake, watermelons, and Maxim Tomatoes are probably really high on the (very long) list

• While he's never 'lost' a friend, most of his friends that he meets on his adventures end up living pretty far away, and he can't see all of them as often as he'd like to, and sometimes Kirby ends up... kinda lonely

• Whether Kirby is rarely afraid of fighting all the giant baddies because he's just that confident or because he doesn't grasp how great the danger truly is is anyone's guess

• Kirby in my 'verse is much better at singing than the anime implies. Not that he's... great-sounding, but nothing should explode, at least, so it's safer, if not pleasant, to hear XD

• He hasn't quite figured out how to skip stones properly, though he's done his best. So now he's pretty sure anyone who can pull it off properly is an actual wizard

• Kirby has no memory of his parents or his early life and where he might have come from. In fact, he isn't even sure what he is, given that he's never seen anyone that looks like him before. Well. Until he carved Meta Knight's mask in two and opened up that whole can of worms... He's been desperate to understand more about the knight and their apparently shared species ever since, but Meta doesn't seem interested...

• Despite Meta Knight constantly trying to avoid him and be as aloof as possible, Kirby's still adamant about getting to know him and figure out all the stuff he's got to be hiding, and he's... oddly attatched to the knight, despite the fact that really, he barely knows him. He seems to worry about him more, and be more interested in what he's doing. He really wishes that Meta Knight would just talk to him...

Meta Knight Headcanon Bits:

• Meta Knight has white eyes. There's a faint shadow of a pupil and texture of the iris discernible there up close, but from afar/in the right lighting, they appear to merely be flat white. (HAL deciding to give him yellow eyes in recent games makes me a n g r y-)

• That said, he is not blind, however, though he does have some... other eye issues resulting from this, and he's very self-conscious about how they look. There's a few reasons his visor has a tint to make them appear a 'normal' color, and that's a big one

• I'm sure this is not a surprise but he's kind of an emotional mess sometimes, though he tends to hide it really well

• Meta has daddy issues. His father is Galacta Knight.

• He definitely lived in the woods like a hobo for a while, At Peace With Nature(TM) (Read: Meta once said 'nope' to society because he hates people and likes plants)

• His crew referring to him as Lord Meta Knight, isn't a fluke. Technically, he is a lord, a member of nobility, and rightly should hold that title. Not many people know this, though, and he tries to keep that kind of quiet so people ask him less questions

• Meta Knight's actually done a fair bit of travelling around the galaxy at this point, and one side effect of these adventures is that he's now fluently multilingual in several languages he's used recently in his travels, and probably painfully rusty in many others that he hasn't spoken in a hot minute XD

• He claims he's allergic to stupidity. Usually whenever he's trying to avoid Dedede. Mentions things like breaking out in hives and asphyxiating. No one has seen concrete proof of this, and many have pointed out that you can't be allergic to abstract concepts, but he's adamant it's true

• Though their relationship began kind of rocky, his crew has become his found-family of sorts, and he's grown deeply close to them. The fact that he'll eventually outlive them all is something that weighs heavily on his mind. He tries his best not to think about it

• His one constant companion that's stuck by his literal side for ages has been Galaxia, who is like. An oddly paternal hunk of metallic snark, and they have such a fun relationship to write, honestly. The sword's a bit more than just magic and sapient, though. There's other stuff floating around, there.

• Ever since Kirby found out the secret of his appearance, Meta Knight's tried a little harder to avoid him, afraid that Kirby is going to dredge up a bunch of stuff about his past in the process; something that he's actively trying to forget about

Puffball Headcanon Bits:

• Puffballs in my 'verse are technically called Batamon; this is what they refer to themselves as, and is the 'proper' name for their race, though most people (who have no idea of this information) refer to them as puffballs or puffs, or similar things. Sometimes this bothers them XD Their young, however, are called Pufflets!

• Batamon are biologically immortal; they can be killed, but if you leave them alone, they cannot die of old age. They don't even really get 'old' the way we know it; their bodies grow and strengthen with age as opposed to our own breaking down

• Batamon aren't furry. They have very smooth, soft skin. Ever pet a ray? Feels like that. Incredibly soft. (if you have not pet a ray, I pity you and encourage you to try when you get the opportunity). Actually, they don't have any sort of hair, either, because they aren't mammals. They can, however, grow manes out of... fluff. It's very soft and fuzzy, and basically small, hair-like down feathers. Running your hand through it feels like petting a moth

• Because they aren't mammals, they don't give live birth, either. They lay pretty little eggs, instead :D

• Due to... events... Batamon are pretty endangered. There's only a few hundred of them that exist anywhere in the universe, and they're all well hidden enough that no one knows where they are, and in fact most people don't think they still exist. Some probably believe they never did. They're pretty happy about that, honestly. No one will come looking for them

• Feudalism is still a thing with them, and the concept and codes of knighthood are a pretty big part of their culture. All of them are trained as knights, but that's by no means the only profession they have available. They just ensure that all members of their society are readily able to defend themselves and everyone conducts themselves in accordance with their codes of honor to function in polite society at the very least

• All Batamon are capable of inhaling things and copying 'abilities', though some choose to do this far more often than others, and for different reasons, not just fighting

• They can survive the environment of outer space perfectly well, and even seem... suspiciously well adapted for it, somehow

• Batamon are cathemeral/metaturnal, and have excellent night vision

• They can make all sorts of weird noises

• That includes purring, which they often do when they are content, and while they are asleep, instead of snoring, and when they're with someone they love, which is generally accompanied by cute, cat-like head nudges and nuzzling. There is almost nothing cuter than a pair of them rubbing their little faces together and purring, and that is fact, you cannot disagree

• All Batamon have wings. They are, in fact, hatched with them. What's up with Kirby, then...?

• Like Meta Knight in the anime, adult Batamon's eyes are bioluminescent and contain chromatophores than enable color changing. This occurs subconsciously as an indicator of emotional state, but can also be done by conscious will, and apart from their spoken native tongue, Batamon have a secondary language; 'Ocular', that they 'speak' by flashing colors from their eyes in different patterns. Meta Knight 100% uses this to say judgmental things about people to himself

Dark Meta Knight Headcanon Bits:

• Most incarnations I've seen of Dark Meta make him out to be... somewhere on the spectrum of like... psychotic serial killer, meets coldhearted bastard, meets oddly promiscuous sexual deviant that exists to make Meta Knight uncomfortable, and oops mine is really none of those things

• (He does, however, spend a good deal of time making Meta Knight uncomfortable)

• What may surprise you is that mine actually has... very little personality to start with. He is a literal reflection of Meta Knight, created when he first entered the Mirror World while it was under Dark Mind's control, and with pretty much the sole purpose of stopping Meta from stopping Dark Mind, so... as long as he could kick sufficient butt, little more was needed, and Dark Mind certainly didn't care about making him an interesting person

• So to begin with, the only real personality Dark Meta Knight could be argued to possess is whatever he could have 'learned' by mirroring his counterpart. As such, the emotions and feelings he's most adept at portraying and even understanding are ones that Meta Knight would have displayed during their interactions. He tends to be best at anger, though he's also very good at pain, and not bad with fear. While he is capable of experiencing positive emotions (though that's less common if we're honest), he's not great at expressing them, and often the best you're going to get from him is just a dead-neutral expression

• Also related, he speaks very infrequently, and his voice is monotonous and flat a good 90% of the time. He becomes most talkative, and generally the most animated, when in the presence of his counterpart, due to his... instinctive drive to copy him, you could call it, pressing him to act more lifelike to better mirror him

• He's completely blind in his left eye, as that tends to happen when your eyeball explodes because someone shoved a sword in it. That eye can still glow, but the light is weaker and sort of... uneven. It also tends to bleed, (haemolacria) particularly when he's straining it, or when he's stressed, or just because it wants to

• He's sort of... corrupted due to the circumstances of his creation, and easily susceptible to powers of darkness, but all he really wants is to protect the Mirror World, since that was his original purpose and is sort of 'programmed' into his personality, as well as the fact that he recognizes he's arguably the most power inhabitant, so there's no one better to do it

• Really he's just sort of troubled, kind of unstable, and really, really ill-equipped to socialize or understand creatures from outside the mirror, so it's best to leave him alone

• He and Meta Knight have a... very strained relationship that mostly involves mutual loathing and wariness
